Sthree Shakthikaranam

A woman with the ability to determine her own choices and has her own voice, is a strong woman, capable of making a positive impact in the society. Sthree Shakthikaranam initiative of Walkaroo Foundation focuses on helping women to realise their self-worth and to take a step for themselves in the society. Providing training on vocational skills to destitute and mentally ill women,setting up bag stitching centres, supporting NGOs and groups working for the well-being of women etc. are some of the women empowerment initiatives undertaken to improve the quality of life and promote the mental and physical health  of women belonging to marginalized sector of society.

Our Projects & Initiatives

AUGUST, 2024

Walkaroo Foundation, in collaboration with Native Medicare Charitable Trust (NMCT), successfully launched the second phase of the Tailoring Training Program in Okkilipalayam on August 21, 2024. Funded by Walkaroo Foundation and implemented by NMCT, this three-month initiative builds on the success of the first phase in Chettipalayam, where the results were highly commendable.

Over 20 women in Okkilipalayam have joined the program, which focuses on advanced motorized sewing machine operations. Representatives from Walkaroo Foundation, NMCT, and local community leaders attended the launch event, with participants from the first phase sharing their stories of how the training has empowered them.

The program offers a wide range of skills, from basic stitching to intricate embroidery and Aari work, helping participants become financially independent. These skills enable women to seek employment or start their own businesses, promoting economic self-sufficiency and supporting the growth of their community.

JULY, 2024

Walkaroo Foundation proudly announces the extension of its Uyarvu-II project in collaboration with Helping Hearts at ECRC Mettupalayam. This initiative, dedicated to supporting destitute women in and around Coimbatore, builds upon the remarkable success of Uyarvu I at Sharnalayam, which provided skill training and livelihood opportunities. The program has notably helped mentally ill and destitute women by involving them in producing cloth bags, significantly improving their mental stability.

Uyarvu-II initiative was inaugurated at ECRC Mettupalayam during a special ceremony on July 8th. This event marked a significant step in Walkaroo Foundation’s mission to rehabilitate destitute women and provide them with sustainable livelihood opportunities.The ceremony was graced by esteemed guests, including Municipal Chairman, Municipal Commissioner, inmates of ECRC, representatives from Helping Hearts, and honored guests from Walkaroo Foundation. Walkaroo Foundation remains committed to empowering marginalized communities through such comprehensive initiatives, ensuring a brighter and more inclusive future for all.

MAY, 2024

On May 2, 2024, the Walkaroo Foundation, in partnership with NMCT, inaugurated a tailoring training project in Chettipalayam to empower local women through skill development. The ceremony was graced by invited guests from Walkaroo, NMCT representatives, and community leaders. The project has attracted approximately 20 women from the community, offering them a chance to acquire valuable tailoring skills at no cost. The training, conducted over three months on advanced automatic machines, covers a range of techniques from basic stitching to intricate embroidery and Aari work. The skills learned from this program equip participants to explore employment opportunities or entrepreneurial endeavours independently, enhancing their economic independence and contributing to community development.

FEBRUARY, 2022 - FEBRUARY, 2023

Project “Uyarvu” of Walkaroo Foundation focuses on providing Vocational training to the destitute and mentally ill women of NGO Sharanalayam. Walkaroo Foundation has provided the infrastructure for setting up a stitching centre at the premises of Sharanalayam. Selected inmates are trained on screen printing and stitching cloth bags.
